Industry's Self-Commitment on Product Certification
With ist voluntary self commitment to apply product certification for compostable plastic products the bioplastics industry stresses the need and importance of this measure. Certification and labeling allow the identification of products and their proper handling in end-of-life recovery options, especially in composting.

Agriculture, environment and economy benefit from this measure in many ways. European Bioplastics supports this approach, that has been acknowleged by DG Enterprise of the EU Commission. Vice-President Günter Verheugen stated: "I warmly welcome this commitment. We are actively encouraging such initiatives by the private sector. They are an alternative to "hard" legislation is a central element of the Commission’s zeal to regulate in a better and simpler way."
