About Us

The association "European Bioplastics", registered in 2006, is the European branch association representing industrial manufacturers,  processors and users of bioplastics and biodegradable polymers (BDP) and their derivative products. It was formed following a resolution of the General Assembly of the "International Biodegradable Polymers Association and Working Groups" (IBAW) on 2 November 2005. European Bioplastics is the successor to IBAW, which was founded in 1993. The Association supports and promotes the market introduction of the bioplastics innovation. It seeks dialogue with all interest groups and government bodies involved. It provides expert advice and assistance to its members.

Our Mission

The association supports and promotes:

  • the growth and use of renewable raw materials in products and applications
  • innovation leading to lower environmental impact of durable and non-durable plastic products
  • independent third party certification and product labelling based on the EN 13432 standard, if biodegradability and compostability are claimed
  • independent third party certification and product labelling for bio-based polymer products
  • the identification and evaluation of other eco-efficient end-of-life options

Our mission is to facilitate the market introduction of bioplastics in Europe.
