REVISED SEEDLING CERTIFICATION SCHEME Invitation to join Advisory Committee of the Seedling Mark
Dear Members,
On 1 January 2020, a revised version of the Certification Scheme (CS) for products made from compostable materials has come into effect. The CS is based on the European standard EN 13432 and constitutes the basis for obtaining the compostability mark “Seedling”, a trademark owned by European Bioplastics. The certification is performed by DIN CERTCO and TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium.
The latest changes to the CS include the acceptance of a higher thickness of paper, non-wovens or leaf products; specifications for the use of UV/EB-inks and the removal of starch acetate from Annex A. Existing certificates will remain valid until recertification or for a maximum of 3 years.
The Certification Scheme is continuously refined by the Advisory Committee of the Seedling Mark (ACS) and adapted to the latest norms and technical standards. The ACS has been established by European Bioplastics in order to exchange experiences and to harmonise testing and certification procedures.
The Committee is continuously looking for experts in the field of compostable materials and products who would like to contribute to the development of the certification scheme. The members of the Committee are representatives of companies, organisations, and associations involved in the certification of biodegradable materials and products. Participation in the Advisory Committee is not subject to membership in European Bioplastics.
If you wish more information on the revised Seedling Certification Scheme or would like to join the ACS, please contact Katharina Hinse (hinse@european-bioplastics.org).

Kind regards, Hasso v. Pogrell Managing Director
