Personal invitation by the Chairman

Dear Member of European Bioplastics,

2022 is coming to a close. I think we all agree, it has been a very eventful and turbulent year. Not only bringing war to Europe but also showing many of us, for the first time, what global warming in Europe will look like, with the river Rhine being barely a trickle.

This showed to many citizens and the society, global warming is real and that it is five after twelve to act. I am immensely proud to work for the European Bioplastic industry and I think we offer valuable and fast deployable solutions and technologies to de-fossilize in many crucial industries. Even, if some of the upcoming regulations from Brussels are critical towards bioplastics, the overall trend for the biobased economy and for bioplastics remains strongly in our favour.

With this letter I would like to personally invite you to our Members Meeting on 13 December, in Brussels at the Thon Hotel EU, Rue de la Loi/ Wetstraat 75, 1040 Brussels.

As tasked during the last meeting, the board has been busy in building an organisation in Brussels, which will require a modest rise on our membership fees. Linked to the budget, we would like to present and discuss our considerations to enlarge this organisation in Brussels. In addition, the board worked on a materials management concept, which should serve us as basis for the organisation and for further future actions, and this is another topic we would like to present and discuss.

The PPWD, in whatever form it will eventually be published, next to several other challenging regulatory proposals will demand a reaction, and we are actively working on solutions for our industry. In order to do so efficiently, we will need to better streamline the procedure of coordinating positions.

Our main yearly event, the European Bioplastics Conference is coming up, and most of us will meet there, however, I hope that the above topics can convince you to take the trip to Brussels on 13 December and help the board to clarify and take the important steps into the future.

The relevant documents will be sent in due course, however no later than 29 November 2022. If you wish additional information, you can contact me or any of my fellow board members, by email or by phone.

In the name of the whole board and with my best regards,

Stefan
