Bioplastics discussed at Stakeholder Conference on EU Plastics Strategy

In preparation for the upcoming EU Plastics Strategy, the European Commission hosted the Stakeholder Conference ‘Reinventing Plastics – Closing the Circle’ on Tuesday, 26 September 2017, to engage with relevant stakeholders and gather feedback and input for the on-going process of drafting the plastics strategy. European Bioplastics (EUBP), the association representing the interests of the bioplastics industry in Europe, was invited to provide insights and comments regarding the potentials and challenges of bioplastics and their contributions to a circular economy in Europe

 
 
 
 
 

Sneak peek: Programme highlights of this year’s European Bioplastics Conference

We are happy to announce some first highlights of this year’s conference, taking place on 28-29 November 2017 in Berlin, Germany. Some of the highlights of this year’s programme include Kevin Vyse from Marks and Spencer, speaking about the sustainable use of packaging made with biopolymers, Marie Hélène Gramatikoff from Lactips, sharing insights about bio-based thermoplastics from milk protein, and Ramani Narayan from Michigan University assessing whether mealworms and caterpillars are the new solution to the plastic waste problem. The Chinese toy maker BanBao will present its new toy blocks BiOBUDDI made from bio-based PE, which will be launched on the European market later this autumn

Biodegradable plastics needed to increase recycling efficiency

In the light of the current debates and consultations on the upcoming EU Strategy on Plastics and the revision of the EU waste legislation, European Bioplastics (EUBP) echoes the call for greater investments in the implementation of separate recycling streams, made by the association of Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) last week. In a press release, PRE calls for the development of separate recycling streams for biodegradable plastics to improve waste management efficiency throughout Europe. EUBP supports these efforts to ensure a high quality of recycled plastics

Perstorp steps up commitment to Caprolactone market by upgrading Capa plant

Perstorp is securing the future of its Caprolactone business through a significant investment to upgrade its monomer plant in Warrington, UK and to further increase security of supply.
