Polybioskin Event: Technologies and tests for personal care, cosmetics and biomedical products
On 8 July at 3:00pm, the consortium partners of the Polybioskin meet to present objectives and results of the past research work. European Bioplastics supports the project as member of the consortium. Polybioskin is an international and interdisciplinary three-year research and development effort aiming to broaden the use of biopolymers in biomedical, cosmetic, and sanitary skin-contact applications. The project focussed on two main classes of bio-based polymers with excellent innovation, sustainability, and commercialisation potential for the bio-based industry: biopolyesters, specifically PLA and PHAs, and the natural polysaccharides cellulose, starch, and chitin/chitosan. The objective was to develop and validate a 90% or more bio-based and fully biodegradable products, such as baby diaper with a skin-compatible surface and a biopolymer-based superabsorbent core, enriched with antimicrobial and antioxidant functionalities to prevent skin reddening and inflammation. The event will provide technical and scientific information on the project, including training initiatives and presentations on LCA and LCCA methodologies. 15th European Bioplastics Conference
The European Bioplastics Conference, taking place on 1/2 December 2020, is the leading business and discussion forum in Europe for the global bioplastics sector. With more and more brands and manufacturers embracing the potential of biopolymers, and with policy makers increasingly streamlining their efforts to create frameworks that benefit the growth of sustainable bio-industries, this is the time to put bioplastics on top of the agenda of a bio-based circular economy in Europe and beyond. This year’s conference will focus on the latest innovations in bioplastics as well as on environmental aspects and opportunities for growth.
