News and updates for EUBP members
News and updates for EUBP members
EC adopts regulation on recycled plastic food contact materials: On September 15, 2022, the European Commission officially adopted the new regulation on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, (EU) 2022/1616. The new regulation requires the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to assess and, if appropriate, authorize traditional as well as novel recycling processes “capable of producing safe plastics”. It also outlines quality control and enforcement. The regulation comes into effect in October 2022, and the Commission has developed a website with answers to frequently asked questions about the regulation and how it will be applied. This is also relevant for bioplastics, as bio-based plastics (e.g. ,bio-PET, PEF, PLA) can be recycled and, thus, potentially be used to process new FCMs. Investor looking for partnership in bio-based: European Bioplastics has recently been approached by Vision Hunters Ltd. Oy with the following request: “Vision Hunters is currently working for a large Brazilian forest company which is looking for investment opportunities in Europe among bio-based plastics producers. The client is especially interested in bio-based MEG producers. In short, their aim is to form a strategic partnership, invest in the partner company, and after some time scale start operations in Brazil. In Brazil, the client owns a large bio-based raw-material pool which the company wants to use in the future. The client would also be interested in visiting potentially interested companies in Europe towards the end of October”. Please note that this was no cold call approach. EUBP had been in contact with the responsible person at Vision Hunters in the past. If you’re interested in working with them, contact us by 14 October via info@european-bioplastics.org, and we’ll put you in touch.
