The mission of Ecobuddy® is to valorize waste and by-products from local agrifood chains by transforming them into new bio-materials and biodegradable and compostable items.

Ecobuddy offer a wide range of biodegradable and compostable biocompounds made from various agrifood waste typical of our territory (oil pomace, silverskin, beer spent grain, etc.). Our bio-materials can be used through the most conventional plastics processing technologies (injection molding, thermoforming, extrusion, 3D printing, etc.).

There are various application sectors: agriculture, cosmetics, sports, toys, etc. Ecobuddy was therefore created to reduce, on the one hand, the consumption of non-biodegradable plastic materials from fossil sources and, on the other, the use of increasingly precious natural resources (e.g. water and soil) now necessary for the production of virgin bioplastics.

The new bio-materials are the result of a research program, co-funded by European Commission under LIFE program, developed in partnership with the Messina Foundation – Philanthropic Institution, Crossing s.r.l., a spin-off of the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and with the Department of Engineering and MiFT of the University of Messina.

The technology developed and industrially validated allows for the development of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics from agri-food waste, overcoming the limitations of traditional bioplastics, which require the use of agricultural crops. This approach reduces competition with the food supply chain and minimizes the consumption of natural resources such as water and soil.
