Historically, petrochemical refineries extracted underground crude oil to build the modern materials economy. Today, conventional PLA production relies on virgin food crops like corn and sugarcane. TripleW rewrites this narrative by treating organic food waste as the new petroleum – extracting high-value chemical building blocks from abundant, local waste streams.
TripleW’s proprietary technology combines fermentation with advanced purification to convert variable, mixed organic waste into Circulac®—a ultra-pure lactic acid engineered for high-performance polymer production. In 2025, TripleW and Sulzer Chemtech successfully demonstrated the first ever PLA made entirely from food-waste-derived lactic acid, establishing a breakthrough renewable carbon pathway.
Our process seamlessly integrates into existing waste management infrastructure. It processes local organic waste, extracts lactic acid, and returns residual organic matter directly back to anaerobic digestion for biogas generation, maximizing carbon efficiency.
Simultaneously, TripleW solves the end-of-life challenge through chemical upcycling. Demonstrated in collaboration with Sulapac by processing post-consumer PLA cups used at Burger King, our technology breaks down post-consumer PLA back into high-purity lactic acid.
By converting organic waste into PLA and subsequently valorizing post-consumer PLA back into feedstock, TripleW delivers a complete closed-loop system. With Circulac® sold commercially and both pathways proven at scale, TripleW unlocks scalable, cost-competitive, and truly circular PLA.
