Bioplastics: A Strategic Pillar of a Circular, Regenerative, and Competitive EU Bioeconomy
European Bioplastics (EUBP) welcomes the revision of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy. As the EU charts a path towards climate neutrality, industrial resilience, and biodiversity recovery, bioplastics must be recognised as a key bioeconomy enabler. Derived from renewable carbon and/or offering circular end-of-life options (mechanical, advanced, and organic recycling), bioplastics represent a scalable solution for defossilising material flows. The EU Bioeconomy Strategy must go beyond rhetorics and establish an actionable roadmap that removes regulatory inconsistencies, creates market incentives, scales innovation, and assures EU competitiveness. Europe’s bioplastics sector is ready to deliver – but needs coherent, forwardlooking support.
