Currently, bioplastics represent less than one per cent of about 431 million tonnes of plastic produced annually. However, as demand continues to rise — and with more sophisticated materials, applications, and products emerging, the market is already experiencing dynamic growth. According to the latest market data compiled by European Bioplastics and nova-Institute, global production capacity of bioplastics is expected to increase significantly, from around 2.31 million tonnes in 2025 to approximately 4.69 million tonnes in 2030.
