5 facts about Celanese

  • Based in Dallas, Texas, USA, with net sales of $9.7bn, ~13,300 employees and 50 owned and operated manufacturing locations in 27 countries, Celanese is a leading global chemistry and specialty materials company that strives to improve the world and everyday life through our people, chemistry and innovation. We create products that are essential to many aspects of your day. A Celanese material is almost always within arm’s reach, from your mobile phone to your car, from your medical device to the paint and carpet around you. Our Engineered Materials business designs, develops and manufactures materials that meet various critical needs across industries. Our sustainable solutions allow customers to effectively address their sustainability targets without compromising quality and performance.
  • Celanese supports the Three Rs of Sustainability (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) but also believes that the Single Use Plastic (SUP) global initiative is going to require additional sustainable solutions to address this challenge. This is where Celanese’s BioPolymer Solutions provides alternatives to those looking for both bio-based and biodegradable options to support their sustainability objectives. More than 100 years ago, Celanese began producing a biopolymer from a naturally renewable source: wood pulp. Utilizing this raw material from certified sustainable forests, Celanese makes Clarifoil® Cellulosic Film. We’ve pioneered and refined this line of biobased, biodegradable, industrial and home compostable materials for over 70 years. This is an excellent alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastic films commonly used today.
  • Clarifoil® Cellulosic Film is a flexible material with unique properties, adding aesthetic and functional attributes to its sustainability credentials. In its basic form, Clarifoil® Cellulosic Film is a very transparent, flexible film with extremely low haze and superb transparency. Combined with its high gloss surface, this product is ideal for many applications, especially in print and packaging where its high moisture vapor transmission rate (but low water permeability) may also be utilized. The film can be colored to add to its visual appeal and a full, non-coated matt surface is available as an alternative finish. Additives can be incorporated in the formulation of the film to bring additional functionality such as high slip, UV absorber, flame retardant or destructibility. Compostable sealable films are also available. Many film thicknesses are produced from 14µm to 500µm.
  • Clarifoil® Cellulosic Film is an ideal material for the lamination of print and board, windows in printed folding cartons, the face material in pressure-sensitive labels, the outer print layer in flexible packaging structures and other food and non-food applications that require technical film solutions with sustainability qualifications including compostable food trays (lidding and liner), tapes, graphics, insulation and anti-fog.
  • Our diverse product line provides our customers with inspiring, reliable, cost-effective cellulosic film solutions. We serve our markets as the world’s leading producer of cast cellulosic films for commercial applications and carefully ensure the quality and performance of our products.
