Neste’s renewable products reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 10 million tons in 2020
In the course of 2020, Neste’s renewable products helped customers in several geographic markets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10.0 million tons altogether. This amount equals the annual carbon footprint of 1.5 million average EU citizens (source: World Bank) or the removal of 3.7 million passenger cars from the roads for a full year.
New compostable packaging by TIPA doubles shelf life of fresh produce
Food waste is among the most urging problems of our modern societies. Bioplastic packaging can play an important role by increasing the shelf-life of food. Compostable packaging producer and EUBP member TIPA together with shelf-life extension specialist PerfoTec developed a fully compostable packaging that extends the shelf-life of fresh produce. The resulting laser microperforated compostable film provides retailers and suppliers with packaging qualities to reduce food waste, combat plastic pollution and cut carbon emissions. TIPA and PerfoTec said their combined technologies have been found to extend the shelf-life of fruit, vegetables and flowers by up to double the time.
Sukano PLA masterbatches effective against SARS-Cov-2
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has helped to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene and health all over the world. The demand for surfaces that refuse to transmit the virus has significantly increased. Sukano has developed an antiviral PLA masterbatch that is designed to protect all kinds of surfaces. Michael Kirch, Global Head of R&D for Sukano, said: “We tested against both SARS-Cov-2 and Influenza H1N1, according to ISO 18184:2019 and ISO 21702:2019. We are delighted with the outcome of the tests and we now have confirmation on the deactivation of the viruses.”
