Compostables could help fight plastic pollution

A recently conducted survey commissioned by TIPA, a manufacturer of compostable packaging solutions headquartered in Israel, and conducted by YouGov has revealed that a large majority of UK adults favour the implementation of a collection system for all recyclable or compostable packaging from households across the UK. The survey was conducted online among 1,734 adults. TIPA is a founding member of Compostable Coalition UK, a UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) funded project examining how compostable packaging can be effectively collected and organically recycled at scale. The outcome, said the company, showed wide public support for compostables. It also demonstrated a desire for the UK Government to do more to incentivise and support this industry.

SIG : Landliebe first globally to introduce combiSwift closure with tethered cap for SIG’s carton packs

Landliebe Molkereiprodukte GmbH is the first manufacturer globally to introduce SIG’s combiSwift closure with tethered cap. The German dairy company has launched UHT milk in combiblocSlimline carton packs with SIG’s combiSwift TC (tethered cap) under its Landliebe brand, with products on shelf since end of September 2022. The partnership between Landliebe and SIG spans many years, as both companies strive to continuously improve and lead the way in both production technologies and product ranges, to find innovative sustainable solutions. The brand was one of the first companies to market with SIG’s combibloc ECOPLUS packaging material without aluminium layer, with less CO2, and a higher content of renewable raw material.

Biorizon teams up with Kaneka to create a sustainable premium polymer

Researchers from Biorizon (Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands), co-initiator VITO (Mol, Belgium), and chemical company Kaneka Belgium (Westerlo) joined forces to conduct research to create a lignin-based polymer that outperforms its fossil-based counterpart in terms of thermal stability and UV-blocking properties. Kaneka liquid polymers are used as base resins for producing high-quality sealants, adhesives, and coatings. Their properties enable products that contain Kaneka’s polymers to deliver performance for a wide variety of markets, including construction, industrial, transportation, flooring, waterproofing, DIY, and specialty markets.
