PSI and Danimer Scientific to create bio-based, home compostable film packaging
EUBP member Plastic Suppliers, Inc. (PSI), a global manufacturer of biopolymer EarthFirstÒ PLA barrier and non-barrier sealant films, recently announced the cooperation agreement with Danimer Scientific, a leading developer and manufacturer of biodegradable materials. Together they will create bio-based, home compostable films. PSI will use material supplied by Danimer Scientific to produce packaging films that will reliably biodegrade without leaving behind harmful microplastics.

DuPont’s Sorona celebrates 20th anniversary of first commercial run
DuPont recently announced the 20th anniversary of its first commercial run for the 3G2 production line at the Kinston, North Carolina plant site, signifying the launch of the world’s first 3GT polymer, known by its trademark Sorona. To mark the milestone, anniversary events will be held to celebrate the history of Sorona, and to focus on its future, the company reports.

Fraunhofer ISC wins German Packaging Award 2020
The goal to increase the recyclability or compostability of packaging as well as the aim to produce more packaging from biogenic raw materials presents great challenges for the industry. The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research (Fraunhofer ISC) supports packaging manufacturers in this process with sustainable multifunctional barrier coatings for easily recyclable, bio-based or compostable packaging. For this development, Dr. Sabine Amberg-Schwab from Fraunhofer ISC was honoured with the German Packaging Award in the category “Sustainability”.
